Blowfish Split Saturday Doubleheader with Redwolves

FLORENCE, S.C.- The Columbia Blowfish split a doubleheader with the Florence RedWolves Saturday losing game one 5-1 and winning game two 1-0. Game one of the doubleheader was a make up of the game rained out on July 10.

The RedWolves won game one against Zack Russell-Myers giving him his first loss of the season. Russell-Myers went four and two third innings giving up four runs on eight hits while striking out two. The RedWolves scored three in the third and added another in the fifth off of Russell-Myers.

Florence scored their fifth run off of J.D. Osborne who went one and a third giving up a run on two hits while striking out one. The run was not earned.

The Blowfish scored their lone run in the fifth off of Florence starter Brandon Bargas who went five and two thirds innings giving up the one run on five hits while striking out six to get the win.

In game two the Blowfish got an outstanding pitching performance from Derek Beasley who threw a complete game gem. Beasley went the full seven innings giving up no runs on just four hits while striking out two. The Blowfish scored their lone run in the fifth on a Jarrod Reed single.

The RedWolves also got a great start on the mound from Derek Vaughn. Vaughn also went the complete seven innings giving up the one unearned run on three hits while striking out three.

The Blowfish have Sunday and Monday off before hosting the Thomasville HiToms Tuesday night at Historic Capital City Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:05 and tickets are available at blowfishbaseball.com or by calling 254-FISH.
