Sharks Take a Bite Out of the Owls

Forest City Owls News Release

Wilmington, NC- The Wilmington Sharks launched three home runs off Forest City Owls' starter Drake Thomason Saturday night, en route to a 5-2 win against the Owls. The three long balls are the most given up by the Owls as a team, and by any single pitcher this season. All of Wilmington's runs came on solo shots by Lloyd Enzor and Andrew Valencia, plus a three-run homer by Zach Stephens.

After Enzor and Valencia homered in each of the first two innings to put the Sharks up 4-0 early, the Owls picked up a run in the top of the 4th inning. Gunnar Heidt and T.J. Sutton walked to start the inning. Wilmington starter Ross Whitley retired the next two batters, but Stephen Tarkenton lined a base hit to left field, scoring Heidt.

Stephens' homer in the bottom half of the 4th put the Sharks back up by four runs. Dykota Spiess cut it back down to three with an RBI groundout in the 7th inning. Nick McQuail came around to score after leading off the inning with a double. Three different relievers combined to close out the game with Andrew Brockett earning his 7th save by striking out the side in the 9th.

The Owls have the day off tomorrow. Forest City plays host to the Gastonia Grizzlies on Monday night. It will be Mighty Dollar Monday at McNair Field with select concession items available for just a buck. Call 828-245-0000 to order tickets or stop by the ticket booth at McNair Field.
