Blowfish Lose Sixth Straight
June 17, 2014 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Lexington County Blowfish News Release
FLORENCE, SC - The past week of baseball has not exactly gone as the Columbia Blowfish would like. Mired in a five-game losing streak and in search of their first victory in a week's time, the Blowfish hit the road for another tilt against their 1-20 rival Florence RedWolves.
The Blowfish mustered an early advantage, snatching their first lead against Florence all season. Julian Santos (Bethune-Cookman) reached on a bunt single and stole his way into scoring position.
Trevor Bradley (Francis Marion) followed by dropping a run scoring double just inside the right field line that plated Santos for the game's first run.
The RedWolves countered in the bottom of the 3rd inning with a run scoring single by Joseph Bialkowski of Georgetown that tied the game back up at 1-1 each side.
Florence would wrestle the lead back in the bottom of the 6th inning, as a sacrifice fly plated the go ahead run for the RedWolves, who jumped to a 2-1 lead.
Robbie Baker (Richmond) did all he could for Columbia on the mound as the starting pitcher. Baker went 5 innings, gave up 5 hits and 1 earned run (2 total).
Comeback chances fell by the wayside in the 7th, 8th, and 9th inning for the Blowfish as they dropped their 6th straight game.
Trevor Bradley finished 1 for 2 with a couple of walks and an RBI double.
Columbia returns to Historic Capital City Stadium for back-to-back doubleheaders on Wednesday and Thursday, as they take on Florence in a make up of a rainout and resume a weather suspended game against Forest City on Thursday night.
