The Forest City Owls shutdown the Pilots and ended their eight game winning streak on Tuesday night in Hampton, VA.
Eric Cheray hit a two-run homer and the Owls recorded eight hits to back Taylor Thurber in a 5-0 shutout against the Pilots.
When Wenzel added an RBI single to make it 4-0 in the second, the Owls already had five hits off Derek Justice who started the night with a 2.08 ERA.
Thurber (2-0) allowed six hits, one walk and had five strikeouts over five innings. He has only given up two runs all year in 17 innings, giving him a 1.03 ERA.
Sean Doolittle, the third Oakland reliever, pitched the ninth for his third save and complete a four-hitter.
Justice lasted just three 2/3 innings giving up four runs on seven hits for the Pilots.
Wes McGuire replaced Justice and was greeted by Conor Clancey, who ripped a RBI single to put the Owls ahead 5-0.
Joey Hawkins added some insurance runs in the seventh with a RBI double to extend the lead to seven runs. Steven Pallares also with a big night finishing with three hits and three runs.
___ worked out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the third by getting a double play grounder fromÃÂ Desmond JenningsÃÂ on a 3-2 pitch. Jennings also hit into an inning-ending double play with two on in the eighth.
The Owls have won six out of their past nine after falling below .500 on June 5th and are currently sitting in third place in the west division.
