FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - When SwampDogs starting pitcher Jordy Farthing struck out four batters in the first inning, you could sense it was going to be a special night at The Swamp. The SwampDogs pitching staff combinded to strike out 18 Wilmington Sharks batters en route to a 4-3 victory on Tuesday night.

Farthing was magnificent, going 5.2 innings, striking out 12 batters while walking none and allowing three unearned runs. The 12 strikeouts for Farthing are the most by a single pitcher in the Coastal Plain League this season, the previous high was 11 by Gastonia's Jared Cheek. As a staff, the SwampDogs ammassed 18 strikeouts, setting another CPL season high for strikeouts in one game by a team.

The scoring got going in the bottom of the third, when David LaFleur reached on an infield single, then came around to score when Jacob Whiting grounded a base hit past Sam Foy for an RBI single.

The 'Dogs would tack on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, when Norm Donkin led off and reached on an error by Joe DeVito, then stole second base. Brandon Metoyer walked with one out, then Metoyer and Donkin executed a double steal. John Parke unleashed a wild pitch to Alex Harris which allowed Donkin to score, and Metoyer to take third. Harris eventuallywalked to put runners on first and third, then Tyler Coolbaugh placed a perfect drag bunt between the mound and first base to reach on a bunt single and bring home a run.

Harris showed a good heads-up play going first to third on the bunt, and would come in and score on David LaFleur's sacrifice fly.

The Sharks would chase Farthing after he allowed three unearned runs in the sixth, before going down quietly in the seventh, eighth and ninth at the hands of Hunter Barnett and Nick Hartman.

Farthing was made a winner for the first time this season, and is now 1-2 with a 1.57 ERA, while Parke gets tagged with the loss, falling to 0-1. Hartman was credited with a save, his first on the season.
