
Blowfish Fall to Redwolves; Return Home Friday Night

FLORENCE, S.C.- The Florence RedWolves topped the Columbia Blowfish 9-2 Thursday night in Coastal Plain League play. The loss drops the Blowfish's second half record to 10-9. The Blowfish are 27-20 overall in 2012.
Zack Russell-Myers got the start on the mound for the Blowfish and lasted just two and a third innings. Russell-Myers had his worst start of the year giving up nine runs, three earned, on eight hits. Stuart Pound pitched five and two third innings of relief for the Blowfish giving up no runs on two hits while striking out five.
The Blowfish got things started in the first scoring a single run before the RedWolves answered with two in the bottom half. The Blowfish tied in the top of the second before the RedWolves exploded for three in the bottom of the second and four in the third.
The RedWolves got great pitching on the night from starter Cory Bafidis. Bafidis went five innings giving up two runs but not allowing a hit with one strikeout. Tyler Witzel pitched the final four innings for th RedWolves. He did not allow a run but did give up one hit, the only hit for the Blowfish on the night.
The Blowfish return home Friday night to face the Florene RedWolves. First pitch is set for 7:05 and tickets are available at blowfishbaseball.com or by calling 254-FISH.
The Columbia Blowfish are in their seventh season at Historic Capital City Stadium and are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 51 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
