Wilmington Sharks News Release

Wilmington, N.C. - Through the first six innings of a Thirsty Thursday doubleheader, Wilmington Sharks (27-20) starter Blaze Tart held the Fayetteville SwampDogs (30-17) hitless and went on to earn the 2-0 win. Wilmington was then shut out by the visitors by the same score in the nightcap.

All the support Tart needed came on an unearned run in the fourth inning after Scott Coleman reached on an error then scored, but Alex Freedman added an insurance run in the fifth after a base hit, a walk, another base hit and a sac fly.

Lloyd Enzor went a perfect 3-for-3 in the opener, but his strong game took a back seat to the no-hit bid that the starting pitcher had alive until the first batter in the top half of the seventh inning smoked a double into left field. That would go down as the only hit Tart allowed, although he was relieved by Wes Hatley who came on for a two-out save.

Stephen Vaughan was also impressive in the second contest, tossing a perfect two innings before leading off the third with a walk. He also allowed a base hit that allowed the runner to score. Fayetteville posted another in the top of the sixth to reverse the Game 1 score into the SwampDogs' favor. Justin Livengood pitched a perfect seventh, but still couldn't get the win as Tyler Brunnemann worked his way out of trouble in the bottom half of the inning.

The Sharks play host to the Petersburg Generals on Friday, then travel to Florence on Saturday. For more on the Sharks, visit wilmingtonsharks.com, add Sharky Sharks on Facebook and follow @ILMSharks on Twitter.
