THOMASVILLE, N.C. - The Morehead City Marlins (19-29 overall, 9-12 second half) won their fifth straight game defeating the Thomasville HiToms (21-28 overall, 9-12 second half) 2-0 Thursday evening at Finch Field.

Matt Wainman (2-3) pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out eight. The southpaw did not walk a batter and the Marlins played flawless defense as Morehead City shut out an opponent for the second straight night.

The Marlins scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning when Jarrett Higgins was hit by a pitch and advanced to second base on a walk issued to Sam Ott. After a groundout, Reed Gordy singled to the left side of the infield to score Higgins and give the Marlins a 1-0 lead.

After both teams traded scoreless fifth and sixth frames, Matt Anderson launched a solo home run, his third of the season, to right field in the seventh inning to extend the Marlins lead to 2-0.

Kyle Keller (2-3) took the loss, surrendering two runs on just four hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings. Anderson was the only Marlin to register a multi-hit, going 2-for-3 as he also singled in the fifth.

The Marlins are on the road again tomorrow evening when they take on the Asheboro Copperheads. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. with the live broadcast on CPL WebPass beginning approximately 10 minutes prior to first pitch.

Notes: Wainman worked in to the ninth inning for the third straight start... It was the fifth time in seven starts the Marlins have scored two runs or less for Wainman... The southpaw retired the leadoff man every inning... The game took one hour and 45 minutes.
