Owls Roll Over Mustangs, 10-2

Martinsville, VA- The Forest City offense picked right up where it left off last night, trouncing the Martinsville Mustangs 10-2 on Thursday night. The Owls widened the game for good in the top of the 6th inning. Forest City batted around, sending eleven men to the plate in the inning, scoring six runs on four hits, three hit batters and a pair of Mustang errors.

Will Chandler drove in three runs, while Champ Rowland and T.J. Sutton added two RBI each on the night for the Owls. Eight of the nine starters reached base via a hit, walk or was hit by a pitch. After being limited in the first two innings, Sutton tied the game at 1-1 in the 3rd when his fly ball was dropped by Zack Hagaman with two outs, scoring Dykota Spiess. Chandler and Bryan Aanderud followed with back-to-back RBI doubles in the 4th inning.

Forest City has now won three in a row for the first time in the second half of the season. Nick Lomascolo turned in his 7th quality start in eight appearances for the Owls. The lefty allowed three of his four hits surrendered in the 1st inning when Martinsville took a 1-0 lead. Lomascolo earned his 5th win of the season, tying Ryan Tezak for the team lead. Nate Cudney gave up a run in two innings of relief work. Hunter Privette tossed a scoreless 9th to finish the game.

Forest City heads to Gastonia tomorrow for a special Midnight Madness game with a Home Run Derby taking place as part of the pre-game action. The Owls return home Saturday night for the only meeting with the Fayetteville Swampdogs this season. There will be a fireworks show after the game. The Forest City Owls are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
