Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.-In his first game of a Major League Rehabilitation Assignment from the Diamondbacks, infielder Willie Bloomquist boosted the Reno Aces to an 8-5 win over the Tacoma Rainiers on Friday night at Aces Ballpark.
Bloomquist went 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored as the leadoff batter and starting second baseman for Reno. Outfielder Tony Campana was also a significant part of the Aces offense, going 3-for-4, including his first triple of the season, with two RBI and three runs scored. Aces batters combined for 11 hits on the night, with Matt Davidson also recording a multi-hit game.
Reno trailed 3-1 entering the fifth, when the club posted a four run inning and then a three run inning in the next frame to take a lead they would not relinquish. Scott Savastano blasted his first home run of the season off Aces reliever Warner Madrigal in the top of the ninth, but Madrigal retired the next three batters in order to end the game.
The win marked Reno's 14th-straight over the Rainiers at Aces Ballpark, dating back to May 1, 2011.
RHP Garrett Mock earned his third win of the season, giving up two runs-both earned-on three hits through 2.1 innings pitched. Reno starter RHP Zeke Spruill did not record a strikeout, but four Aces relievers combined for nine strikeouts to finish the game.
LHP James Paxton was charged with his fourth loss of the season for Tacoma, giving up six runs-all earned-on eight hits through 5.1 innings.
The series continues on Saturday night at Aces Ballpark. RHP Chase Anderson (3-5, 5.47 ERA) will get the nod for Reno, while the Rainiers will counter with RHP Blake Beavan (2-2, 3.70 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and 2,000 lucky fans will receive a Brett Butler Championship Bobblehead.
