Marcus Hatley Returns to Iowa Bullpen

May 25, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Iowa Cubs News Release

Des Moines, IA - The Chicago Cubs placed Iowa reliever Esmailin Caridad on the disabled list today with a right elbow strain. The injury forced the right-hander out of last night's game in the top of the seventh inning. RH Marcus Hatley joins Iowa today from double-A Tennessee to fill the open roster spot.

Caridad is 3-2 with a 6.30 ERA in 11 appearances with Iowa this year. In 20 innings, he allowed 15 runs (14 earned) on 19 hits, walked 14, and struck out 18. He earned a win in three of four appearances, April 25-May 8 and recorded a hold in two of his last four games. Caridad was one of just five players to spend all season with Iowa in 2012 and was 1-4 with a 3.03 ERA in 44 games, including two starts.

Hatley was 1-2 with a 3.00 ERA (6ER/18.0IP) and two saves in 14 games with the Smokies this season. Last year, Hatley got his first promotion to triple-A in July and was 1-0 with an 8.22 ERA in 12 games with Iowa to finish the year. He was 3-1 with a 3.40 ERA and four saves in 28 games with Tennessee to begin the year. The Cubs drafted Hatley in the 39th round of the 2006 draft out of Palomar (CA) Community College. Baseball America ranked him as the 29th-best prospect in the Cubs' organization entering this season. Hatley was one of 12 players invited to the Cubs Rookie Development Program in Chicago in January.

The Cubs host the Oklahoma City RedHawks tonight at 7:05 at Principal Park. LH Brooks Raley (3-3, 4.78) will start for the Cubs against RH Asher Wojciechowski (1-1, 3.92) for the RedHawks. The gates will open at 5:35 and there will live music from Dan Trilk before and after the game on the Register Media Veranda outside the Cub Club Restaurant. The game will be broadcast live on AM 940 and streamed live at iowacubs.com with the On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show starting at 6:45.
