Alexandria Blizzard News Release
(Alexandria, MN) The Minnesota Blizzard Junior "A" Hockey team successfully ended a four-game losing skid last weekend. The team is still stationed in fourth place, in the NAHL Western Division, after a weekend split of games at home with the Bismarck Bobcats.
Friday night, January 28th, Minnesota scored in each period, en route to a 3-2 win. Sean Fish (Ramsey, MN) and Sam Windsor (Plymouth, MN) each collected three points on the night. Fish tallied two goals, including the game-winner early in the third period. Windsor scored the first Blizzard goal, and assisted on both of Fish's goals. The game had a physical tone, with several fights and skirmishes, and more than 100 penalty minutes being handed out. Between the pipes, Blizzard Goalie Marcus Paulson (Eden Prairie, MN) stopped 25 shots, including 15 in the final period.
In Saturday night's game, the Blizzard out-shot Bismarck, 38-26, but came out on the short end of a 4-1 score. Windsor tallied the only Minnesota goal, with assists coming from two Defensemen....Bobby Kuehl (St. Paul, MN) and Chris Johnson (Brooklyn Park, MN). Special teams figured prominently in the game's outcome. Bismarck scored the go-ahead goal while short-handed, and later added a power-play goal in the third period. The loss leaves the Blizzard with a 22-16-2 record, with 16 games to go in the regular season. It also concluded a 2-4 record, in the month of January for Minnesota.
Ahead for the Blizzard: The team will make its second swing through Montana this coming week, with destinations of Billings and Helena. Wednesday evening, the Blizzard storms MetraPark Arena in Billings, to challenge the Bulls, in an 8:05 PM start. Friday and Saturday evenings, Minnesota will match up with the Helena Bighorns. Game times at the Helena Ice Arena will be 8:05 PM both evenings. KMGK, 107.1 FM, will have play-by-play of all three games in Montana this week. The next home game for the Blizzard will be Thursday, February 10th, with Fairbanks providing the opposition, in an 8:30 PM start.
