PHANTOMS ALUM FEDEROFF RECOGNIZED BY CHA

Robert Morris forward gets weekly honor

Freshman Joe Federoff (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Youngstown Phantoms) was recognized by College Hockey America (CHA) for leading Robert Morris University to a three-point weekend against Niagara University this past weekend. Federoff was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week, after scoring two goals and an assist.

The Colonials earned their first three-point weekend in CHA play as they tied Niagara, 4-4, on Friday night and then blanked the Purple Eagles, 6-0, on Saturday. Federoff tallied a goal and an assist to go along with a +2 plus/minus rating on Friday. His goal proved to be the game-tying score in the 4-4 game. Federoff continued the scoring on Saturday with a short-handed goal; just the second of the season for Robert Morris. Federoff is currently in the midst of a team-record four-game point streak during which he has scored three goals and added three assists.

Federoff was the Toledo Ice Diggers' leading scorer before he was traded to Youngstown on November 26, 2003. In 30 games with the Phantoms last season, Federoff had 10 goals and 20 assists for 30 points, and finished the season with 54 points in 55 games. In 24 games with RMU this season, Federoff is third on the team in assists (10), and tied for second in overall scoring (14 points).

The Colonials are unbeaten (2-0-1) in their last three games and are tied for fifth with Air Force in CHA play with a 2-8-2 record. The two fifth-place teams meet this weekend in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Friday and Saturday, February 4 and 5. The Colonials have an overall record of 6-14-4 in their first year of Division I hockey. Robert Morris' 26-man roster includes 22 freshmen, who look to make a greater impact within the collegiate ranks over the next few seasons.

NAHL ALL-STAR GAME

The NAHL, unlike the NHL, will have an All-Star celebration this year. The league will hold its first All-Star Game, set for Tuesday, February 8 in Frisco, Texas, outside of Dallas. The game itself will feature the original format used by the NHL for its early All-Star Games; the All-Stars vs. the Champs. In this case, a team comprised of the best players from 18 NAHL teams, will face-off against the defending National Junior ‘A' Champion Texas Tornado.

Representing the Phantoms will be defenseman Mark Zarbo and forward Kyle Laughlin. Head Coach Bob Mainhardt will also lead the NAHL All-Star Team as their Head Coach. The NAHL is auctioning both Zarbo's and Laughlin's All-Star game-worn jerseys, as well as their teammates, on eBay through Thursday afternoon, February 10. The opening bids are $150 dollars each.
