Texas Tornado News Release

With family in town from his hometown of Denver, Colorado, Texas Tornado forward Karl Sellan took it upon himself to dominate the first two games of a road series at Santa Fe. On Friday night, the Tornado fell behind 1-0 early, but got goals from Brad Cooper and Ryan Fuller to give them a 2-1 lead. Ben Bishop single-handedly kept the Tornado in the game in the 2nd period, allowing only one power play goal. The 3rd period was all Tornado, but Santa Fe turned many Tornado chances away, forcing overtime. The Tornado started overtime on the power play. Cooper fed the puck through the slot in a pass intended for Tom Train. The puck went to the point where Austin Miller passed it down to Sellan for the back-door tip in, giving the Tornado a 3-2 overtime win.

On Saturday, Sellan put the Tornado ahead 1-0 on the power play, but the Roadrunners answered on a 5 on 3 power play to make it 1-1. The Tornado scored on the power play again in the 3rd period and again off the stick of Sellan to make it 2-1. Justin King took care of a Santa Fe turnover to make it 3-1, but then the Tornado were victims of some tough goal calls. On a 5 on 3 Tornado goaltender Ben Bishop was run over by a Santa Fe player. With Bishop on the ice and dazed, the play was allowed to continue and the Roadrunner scored their second 5 on 3 power play goal of the night to make it 3-2. Santa Fe added another with under two minutes remaining to make it 3-3, but Sellan scored his hat-trick on the power play with :26 seconds left as he fired a shot in the lower left hand corner to give the Tornado a 4-3 win. Sellan currently leads the NAHL in goals with 31.

Next up for the Tornado is another three-game weekend beginning Thursday night in Springfield, Missouri. However, all eyes will be on the Friday and Saturday night home-and-home series with 2nd place Texarkana. The Tornado will travel to Texarkana on Friday to take on the Bandits, before returning home for the first time since January 22nd to finish off the weekend against Texarkana.
