Green Bay Blizzard News Release
Two more members of the Green Bay Blizzard have been nominated for year-end league-wide awards.
OL/DL Joe Peters (6-4, 275 Concordia-St. Paul) is one of eight finalists for the 2005 af2 "Lineman of the Year" Award. Peters, a versatile two-way player, is part of an offensive line that has given up only eight sacks all year, which ranks as the second-best tally in the league. On defense, Peters has done it all, recording two sacks, four passes broken up, one interception and one blocked kick.
K Henrik Juul-Nielsen (6-4, 235 Nebraska-Kearney) is one of six finalists for the "International Player of the Year" Award. Through Week 14, Juul-Nielsen was 6-for-12 on field goal attempts of 20-to-39 yards, was 71-of-83 on PAT attempts, and had registered 25 touchbacks on kickoffs.
This is the first season with the Blizzard for both Peters and Juul-Nielsen, who both spent all or part of the 2004 season with the Peoria Pirates. Joining the Pirates mid-season after graduating from Concordia University in St. Paul, Minnesota with a Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Peters was with the team through its second-half surge that saw them reach the playoffs as the second-ranked Wild Card team and the fifth-overall seed in the National Conference. The Pirates cruised through the playoffs with three consecutive road victories over the top Wild Card Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz, the West Division Champion Bakersfield Blitz and the Southwest Division Champion Tulsa Talons en route to becoming the National Conference Champions. Shortly after falling to the Florida Firecats in arenacup5, the Pirates - who had been in the af2 since the inaugural 2000 season - left the af2 for the upstart UIF, and both Peters and Juul-Nielsen chose to stay in Arena Football, and joined the Blizzard.
Peters and Juul-Nielsen join two other members of the Blizzard in the running for year-end league awards: Head Coach Bob Landsee is one of five finalists for the "Coach of the Year" Award, and DS Ryan Bowers is one of eight finalists for the "ADT Defensive Player of the Year" Award.
