Green Bay Blizzard News Release
The AFL has announced that a fifth member of the 2005 Green Bay Blizzard team that enjoyed its first-ever winning season and playoff berth has been signed to an AFL contract. FB/LB Matt Huebner (6-4, 280 St. Cloud State) has signed with the reigning AFL National Conference Champions, the Georgia Force.
Huebner, who enjoyed great success with the Blizzard in his first year in Arena Football, had previously spent time with the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings in the NFL. Originally a TE coming out of St. Cloud State, Huebner deftly made the transition to FB/LB in the af2, leading the team in rushing yardage and scoring a team-best 13 rushing TDs.
The Force, who finished the 2005 campaign as Southern Division Champions with the AFL's best record at 11-5, made it all the way to Arena Bowl XX in Las Vegas, where they fell to John Elway's Colorado Crush 51-48, by means of a game-winning field goal as time expired.
Huebner joins OS Kenny Solomon (6-3, 195 Benedict), OS Troy Mason (5-9, 170 UNLV), DS Ryan Bowers (6-1, 210 Presbyterian College) and OL/DL Whitney Bell (6-1, 290 Ferris State) as other members of the 2005 Blizzard to sign contracts with AFL teams. Solomon signed with the Georgia Force, Mason signed with the Utah Blaze, Bowers signed with the Orlando Predators, and Bell signed with the Grand Rapids Rampage.
