Memphis Xplorers News Release
SOUTHAVEN --- The Memphis Xplorers of af2 announced today that the team has been assigned five players by the league office. OL/DL Treveco Lucas, OL/DL Kenyun Glover, WR/DB Tyrone Walker, FB/LB Marcus Walton and OL/DL Christopher Eggleston.
The 6-foot-1, 270 pound Lucas was a key contributor to last season's ArenaCup title for the Xplorers. The University of Memphis product had six total tackles, one tackle for a loss, two sacks, two quarterback hurries and one fumble recovery.
"I believe that Treveco is going to come in and have a huge year for the Xplorers this upcoming season," Xplorers Head Coach Danton Barto said. "I believe that he will be one of the premiere pass rushers in all of af2."
Glover, 6-foot-3, 312 pounds and another former Memphis Tiger, spent all of last season on the Xplorers practice squad.
"Kenyun is a guy who spent last year learning the game with us," Barto said. "We are expecting him to come in and be one of the best two-way linemen in all of af2."
Walker concluded a productive four year career at Western Michigan University in 2004. The 6-foot-3, 200 pound WR/DB finished third all-time in school kickoff return yardage. He also had 52 pass receptions for 683 yards and four touchdowns in 37 career games.
"Tyrone made big plays during his college career in the MAC," Barto said. "We expect him to come in and add explosiveness to our offense immediately."
Walton, 6-foot-2, 245 pounds, played his collegiate ball at the University of Maine where he compiled 128 total tackles, 48 tackles for loss, five fumble recoveries and 19 sacks.
"He was a player that recorded 19 sacks on a very good team," Barto said of Walton. "He has all of the tools to be one of the best FB/LB in all of af2."
The 6-foot-4, 303 pound Eggleston played in the af2 for the Green Bay Blizzard last season. In nine games, he had 9 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 2 interceptions, 4 pass break-ups, 2 fumble recoveries and 1 blocked kick.
"I believe that in our system, Chris is going to have a breakout year," Barto said. "We look forward to him coming in and being a big part of our team this season."
