Blizzard Make Long Trip to Wenatchee Valley
April 21, 2011 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Green Bay Blizzard News Release
Green Bay will head back on the road for the first time in four weeks. The Blizzard are 2-1 away from the Resch Center this season. Green Bay's winning streak hit five games last week with a 62-19 victory over the Reading Express. Green Bay played well on both sides of the football. Blizzard defensive lineman James McClinton and defensive back Greg Jackson led the attack. McClinton provided pressure all game long with 3.5 sacks and four tackles-for-loss on the night. Jackson had 10 tackles and 1.5 quarterback sacks. With a comfortable lead in the second half, the Blizzard offense turned to the ground game and running back DeMaudray Woolridge. He had touchdown runs of 8, 32, and 2 yards to put the game out of reach. Woolridge finished the contest with 72 yards rushing on 12 carries to go along with the three touchdowns. Quarterback Willie Copeland completed 17 of 28 passes for 134 yards and threw four touchdown passes, three of them to Chris Bell.
Venom Update: After winning the first two games of the season, Wenatchee Valley has lost five in a row. Last weekend, the Venom dropped a 51-12 decision to the Seattle Timberwolves, a team that changed its name (formerly the Kent Predators), ownership and head coach just four days earlier. Not only did the Venom lose the game, but they also lost their starting quarterback Devin Hollins to injury. Hollins has led the Venom for most of the last two seasons. Tim Simmons, the leading wide receiver for the Venom this season, was moved to the quarterback position for the remainder of the game. Simmons finished the game passing 6 for 19 for 82 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions, and still finished with a team-high 50 yards on five receptions. Wenatchee Valley signed two quarterbacks this week,Charles Dowdell from Indiana State and Jacob Hignite.
Series: This is the first meeting between the two teams. Wenatchee Valley was a member of the AIFA last year and moved to the IFL for the 2011 season. The Blizzard and Venom have one common opponent this season, the Nebraska Danger. Green Bay beat Nebraska 48-38 and Wenatchee Valley lost to the Danger 84-63.
Notes: The Blizzard ranks fourth in the IFL with an average of 53.2 points per game, while the Venom average a little more than 15 points less at 37.9. Green Bay also has a big advantage on the defensive side of the ball giving up 39.5 points per game versus 58 for Wenatchee Valley. Blizzard defensive back Arkeith Brown leads the IFL in interceptions with seven. The Venom receiving corp has two players at the top of the IFL, Tim Simmons sits at the top with 59 receptions for 491 yards and five touchdowns, and Philip Goodman has 37 receptions for 465 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Watch: All IFL contests broadcast during the 2011 season will be available live online and can be accessed through the Blizzard website www.greenbayblizzard.com and www.b2livetv.com. Fans will need a high speed Internet connection to watch live IFL action. Archies Pub in De Pere will not have the broadcast this week due to the holiday.
