Sioux Falls Storm News Release

The Sioux Falls Storm (6-0) will travel to Oklahoma City, OK to take on the Bricktown Brawlers (2-5) this Saturday, April 23, at 7:05pm CT, in a cross-conference matchup. The Brawlers play in the Lonestar Division of the Intense Conference, while the Storm are members of the Great Plains Division of the United Conference.

Last Friday, the Storm defeated the LaCrosse Spartans 77-10. In the game, quarterback Chris Dixon threw for six touchdowns and 247 yards while rushing for two other scores. The team was led in rushing by newcomer Herschel Dennis, who scored two touchdowns and totaled 59 yards on 10 rushes.

The real story of the game, however, was the defensive prowess of the Storm. The team forced five turnovers and three sacks, limiting the sustainability of the LaCrosse offensive drives. Three of those turnovers were interceptions by defensive back Kadafi Tunsil, who also set the tone in the opening minutes with several hard hits on Spartan wide receivers. In addition to Tunsil's strong showing, defensive end Tommy Chavis had 10 tackles (2.5 for loss) and 1.5 sacks, while Jovan Jackson added another 10 tackles and Michael Bazemore had six tackles, 1.5 sacks and a blocked field goal.

The Brawlers are coming off 63-25 loss on April 8 to the Wyoming Calvary. In that game, Jamal Young and Nate Samas split time at quarterback, with Samas tossing two touchdowns for 97 yards, while both threw one interception. Rayford Kendale was impressive on special teams, scoring a touchdown and totaling 97 yards on five attempts. On the defensive side, Steve Allan led the team with five tackles, four unassisted.

"Oklahoma City will be a good road test for us," said Storm Owner, Todd Tryon. "It's always fun to play out of conference games to see how we match up."

The Storm continue their road trip next week against the Nebraska Danger, a rematch of an 80-32 Storm victory. The team will return home Saturday, May 7 to take on the Bloomington Extreme at 7:05pm.
