ALLEN, TX-The Allen Wranglers will are set to face off against the Wichita Wild this week, but that opponent is only second on the Wranglers' list.
The team, joined by the American Cancer Society, CureSearch and Susan G. Komen for the Cure, is fighting for a cure and raising money for cancer research. A portion of all ticket sales will be donated back to research. The team is also holding a silent auction for the pink jerseys worn by the players during the contest; proceeds from that auction will be donated as well.

A balloon release ceremony honoring individuals with cancer will take place in front of Allen Event Center at 5 p.m. Individuals battling the disease will speak about their struggles and encourage others in their personal fights. Wrangler fans are also invited to take part in the Easter egg hunt throughout the Village at Allen. Treasure maps will be provided to hunters at 3 p.m. in front of the event center. Children under 12 returning to the event center with five eggs will receive a free ticket voucher for Wrangler home games.
In case of bad weather, the Wranglers will host the ceremony honoring cancer survivors at 5 p.m. at Dodie's Place across from Allen Event Center. Dodie's is hosting a tailgating buffet special with $2 being donated back to cancer research. The Easter egg hunt will also be moved indoors; sponsors with concourse booths will have eggs to hand out to hunters who stop by their booth before or during the game. Doors to the AEC are set to open at 6:05 p.m; tickets are required for admission.
"This game is not only a fight against the Wild, but a fight against cancer," Wrangler Mike Ward said. "If we win, we beat cancer and the Wild."
A 7:05 p.m. kickoff against the Wild will end the day of festivities for the Wranglers. The Wranglers currently sit at 4-3 on the season. For more information or to purchase tickets, call the Wrangler office at 972-912-3111.
