Green Bay Blizzard News Release

Green Bay, Wis.- With first place of the Central North Division on the line, Green Bay did not disappoint. After suffering their only loss on the season two weeks ago to Bloomington, Green Bay got some revenge by beating the Extreme 35-21.

Green Bay opened the scoring tonight with a two play drive that featured Randy Bell. Quarterback Jake Phillips found Bell for a 27 yard pass play that took the Blizzard down to the seven yard line. On the next play Bell took the handoff to the end zone to put the Blizzard up 7-0.

The Blizzard tried to fool the Extreme on the kickoff by attempting an onside kick. Bloomington recovered the kick and took the ball 16 yards on two plays. The drive was capped off on a rushing touchdown to tie the score at 7-7.

The Extreme broke the tie with 32 seconds to go before halftime. Quarterback Eric McCollom found Wide Rreceiver Harry Lewis for a nine yard touchdown. Bloomington took their first lead of the night, 14-7.

Green Bay answered back before halftime. Phillips would not be stopped on a three yard rushing touchdown to tie the game at 14, going into halftime.

The Blizzard offense did not freeze up at half and came out and scored on the opening drive of the second half. Phillips found Derek Deardorff for a 38 yard pass play that put Green Bay on the five yard line. On the next play Phillips found Arlandus Hood in the back of the end zone to put the Blizzard back on top 21-14.

The Extreme came back down the field and McCollom found Lewis for his second touchdown of the night to tie the game at 21.

On the following series for the Blizzard, the Extreme picked up an unsportsmanlike penalty that put the Blizzard on the 10 yard line. Two plays later Bell found the end zone for the second time on the night to put Green Bay up 28-21.

After Peter Christofilakos missed a field goal attempt for Bloomington, Phillips found Hood in the corner of the end zone for his second touchdown of the night. This score extended the Blizzard lead to 35-21.

Green Bay forced a fumble that clinched the game for the Blizzard. The Blizzard scored 14 unanswered points after the game was tied at 21. Green Bay was led by quarterback Jake Phillips, who was 14 for 24 for 194 yards and threw two touchdowns and also added a rushing touchdown. Green Bay improves to 3-1 on the season and 2-1 in the division.

Green Bay hits the road for a three game road trip starting with the Maryland Maniacs on April 3. That is a 6:05 PM CST start. Also on the road trip the Blizzard plays the La Crosse Spartans and the West Michigan Thunder Hawks. Green Bay returns to Online Trading Academy Field at the Resch Center on April 24th to face the Omaha Beef.
