Green Bay Blizzard News Release
Green Bay - Tonight's match-up between the Green Bay Blizzard and the Bloomington Extreme will not disappoint. The last meeting between these two teams was an exciting one. There were two lead changes in the last minute of the game, and had to come down to the wire.
Jake Phillips leads his 3rd ranked offense into tonight's game. Jake is 55 for 87 for 621 yards with 13 touchdowns. The Blizzard offense is averaging 45 points a game, with 235 yards of total offense. Both of those numbers are reasons why the Blizzard are 3rd in the IFL. Giving Jake the support he needs is a core of receivers that are second to none.
With four catches for thirty five yards and a TD, Derek Deardorff (6'4" 214lb.) is a receiver out of Malone College. Deardorff was selected to the NAIA All-American team for the 2008 college football season. Deardorff ended the regular season as the NAIA's leading receiver, averaging 115.5 yards per game and 16.7 yards per reception. He established new Pioneers single-season records with 69 receptions for 1,155 yards and 14 touchdowns.
On the year, James Finley has seven catches for ninety five yards and three touchdowns. Finley, originally of Englewood, Calif., played his collegiate football at Oregon where he hauled in 72 catches for 708 career yards and four touchdowns in 2005 and '06. He began his career as a collegian at Compton Community College after originally inking a National Letter of Intent (NLI) with Oregon in 2003 before eventually transferring to the Pac-10 school for his final two seasons of eligibility. Before transitioning to Oregon, Finley was ranked among the nation's top 10 junior college wide receivers following the 2004 season by SuperPrep, as well as 32nd in the country among JC prospects encompassing all positions. College Football News additionally tabbed him nationally as the sixth-best junior college receiver and 15th-best overall recruit. Finley ranked seventh in California in receptions per game as a sophomore (6.4 avg.) and 11th in yards per game (100.8 avg.), hauling in seven touchdowns to go along with his 64 catches and 1,008 receiving yards. He put on a show with an 11-catch, 203-yard performance in a Compton CC win over Harbor College. Finley was invited to the NFL combine following his senior season and was later signed by the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent
