Green Bay Update: The Blizzard ended their road trip on Saturday night with a bang as the Green Bay Blizzard (6-1) squeaked out a 72-69 win over the host West Michigan ThunderHawks (3-2). The ThunderHawks were in the driver's seat for much of the game as they took a 55-33 lead into the fourth quarter. That's when Green Bay QB Jake Phillips took over. In the final quarter, Phillips threw 3 TD passes and ran for another to lead the comeback rally for the Blizzard. With one second remaining on the clock and the score tied at 69 apiece, Green Bay Kicker Tino Amancio drilled a 22 yard field goal to seal the come from behind victory. This was truly a quarterback duel as Phillips and his counterpart, ThunderHawks signal caller Brad Iciek, combined to throw for 576 yards and 13 TD's (Phillips 21-33 238 6 TD's, Iciek 16-26 338 7 TD's). Phillips finished the game completing 21 of 33 passes for 238 yards and 6 TD's and carried the ball 10 times for 38 yards and a TD. Phillips and the rest of the Blizzard will look to build momentum for the playoffs when they host the Omaha Beef in Week Nine.
Omaha Update: Prior to its bye week this past weekend, Omaha had a rematch and the first nationally televised game of the 2010 season, when the Omaha Beef (2-3) was defeated by Wichita Wild (5-1) for the second time this year, 56-50. Wild RB Darius Fudge continues to impress in his sophomore season as he added 3 rushing TD's to bring his league leading total to 13 on the season. The biggest play of the game happened in the 4th quarter with the score tied at 50 apiece. Beef WR O.J. Simpson looked to have pulled the Beef ahead with a touchdown catch, but Wild Safety Donta Moore timed his hit perfectly to jar the ball loose for an incompletion. On the ensuing possession Fudge put the Wild up for good with a 5 yard TD run. The Beef had a week to regroup after the loss as they had a bye in Week Eight
