Veteran Quarterback Takes the Snaps

San Angelo Stampede Express News Release


The Stampede Express has brought in a veteran to the arena game to lead the team. Dustin Almond a graduate of Southern Mississippi arrived in San Angelo to give the Stampede Express some depth and experience in the quarterback position.

Almond was a three-year starter at Southern Miss who finished his career 538-of- 1,052 passing for 7,342 yards with 51 TDs, and added 262 carries for 260 yards and 13 rushing TDs... Almond ranks first in Southern Mississippi history with 64 total TDs, second in career passing yards (7,342), fourth in TDs (51) and second in career total offense (7,602)... As a senior in 2005, he started all 12 games and was 216-of-394 passing for 2,860 yards with 23 TDs.

In the professional ranks, Almond lead the Frisco Thunder to a playoff appearance in 2007 and lead the Corpus Christi Hammerheads to the Championship game in 2008 against the Louisiana Swashbucklers. "Dustin brings experience to the team in the fact that he has been there, he has lead teams to the playoffs in the arena game, so to have the opportunity for a player like Almond to come to San Angelo is exciting," states Coach Dolezel.
