Blewett Sharp in Naturals Loss at Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Starter, Scott Blewett, worked his way through 5.2 innings, allowing one unearned run on five hits in his second start of the season; but Corpus Christi plated seven runs over the final two frames to take the middle-game of three-game and claim the series with a 8-1 win at Whataburger Field on Friday night.

The 22-year old right-hander started strong working a six-pitch opening inning and dodged a pair of two-out singles in the second. Blewett allowed a lead-off triple to Arturo Michelena to commence the third inning and Michelena scored on an errant relay throw to give the Hooks a 1-0 lead.

Blewett didn't blink following the triple and error: the right-hander posted a streak of six straight batters retired and worked into the sixth frame, keeping the Naturals deficit at 1-0. Manager, Mike Rojas, lifted Blewett with one-on and two-outs in the sixth inning and tapped Pedro Fernandez to achieve the final out of the frame.

The final line for the Naturals' starter reads 5.2 innings, allowed five hits, struck out four and walked two with the lone tally allowed crossing unearned.

Northwest Arkansas (2-6) tied the game in the top of the seventh inning following a one-out double by Samir Duenez, his fifth of the season. Duenez scored on a two-out single by Donnie Dewees to tie the game at 1-1.

Corpus Christi (4-4) responded with a two-run home run by Lorenzo Quintana in the seventh and five more runs in the eighth inning with Quintana homering for a three-run shot in the frame en route to the 8-1 win.

Fernandez (0-1, 4.05) took the loss working two-thirds of an innings, allowed a run on one hit with a strikeout.

Dewees finished the night 2-for-4 and is now 5-for-8 in the series against the Hooks. Nicky Lopez collected two hits in the nine-hit effort while Nate Esposito doubled in the sixth inning for his first hit of his Double-A career.

Right-hander, Franco Terrero worked two-thirds of an inning, allowed four runs on three hits and walked one. Jake Newberry surrendered two runs on one hit with a strikeout and a walk over a full frame of relief.

The Naturals will look to salvage the finale on Saturday night at Whataburger Field with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch. Left-hander, Emilio Ogando (0-1, 11.20) will toe the slab countering against right-hander, Yoanys Quiala (1-0, 1.80) for the Hooks.
