Brockton Rox News Release

(Ramapo, N.Y. - June 15, 2011) - The Rockland Boulders (6-11) opened Provident Bank Park with a 3-1 win over the Brockton Rox (12-8) on Thursday night in front of a Can-Am League season high crowd of 6,137.

The Rox struggled to get anything going offensively against Boulders starter Bobby Blevins (2-0), who began the game retiring the first eleven batters to step to the dish.

Chris Valencia connected for a solo home run to lead off the sixth inning, but that would be all Brockton could muster against Blevins, who lasted eight frames, giving up three hits while walking two and striking out four.

The home run by the Rox centerfielder was the first in the history of Provident Bank Park.

Mike Smith (2-2) came up short in his third attempt at picking up his third win, despite tossing his first complete game. The righthander allowed all three runs in the fifth inning, before recovering to retire ten straight to conclude the ball game.

Norm Hutchins led off the fifth with a double, followed by a Todd Jennings bunt single that put runners on the corners. An error by Dominic Ramos and a double by Eric Flynn put two runs on the board for Rocklandand the Boulders would tack on one more when Vic Buttler was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded later in the inning.

Smith went eight innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits, while walking one and striking out three.

Adrian Martin entered in the ninth, struck out two and slammed the door in a perfect frame of work. The save for Martin was his fourth in the team's six wins.

The win for Rockland snaps an eight game skid and also ends the Rox three game winning streak.

The Rox head down the road Friday to open a three game series against the Newark Bears over the weekend at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium. Robert Bono (2-0, 2.21) takes the mound for Brockton with first pitch set for 5:35 p.m.
