Pittsfield Colonials News Release

LITTLE FALLS, NJ - Kris Sanchez drove in five runs and James Leverton pitched seven strong innings as the Pittsfield Colonials fell to the New Jersey Jackals 6-3.

Scoreless into the fourth, New Jersey broke the tie in the bottom half of the inning on a three-run homer by Kris Sanchez to give the Jackals a 3-0 lead. Meanwhile, NJ starter James Leverton was atop his game. After allowing a double to Danny Bomback to lead off the game, Leverton retired 15 Colonials hitters in a row heading into the sixth inning.

Pittsfield would crack the scoreboard in the top of the sixth as Scott Knazek led off with a walk. Two batters later, Bomback hit his second double of the game to score Knazek and slice the New Jersey lead to 3-1.

The Jackals responded right away in the bottom of the sixth as Sanchez delivered his second RBI hit of the game, a double, scoring Mike Jones and Jeremy Slayden for a 5-1 NJ lead. The Colonials wouldn't quit, however, coming back with a run in the top of the seventh on sixth homer of the season by Jonny Welch to cut the advantage to 5-2. A sac fly in the bottom of the seventh by Leonard Davis to score Argenis Reyes and a ninth inning RBI double by Billy Mottram created the final margin.

James Leverton (2-2) allowed just one run on three hits over seven innings to pick up the win. Miguel Flores (0-3) allowed only two earned runs in six innings, suffering the loss for Pittsfield.

Pittsfield now returns home for a doubleheader against the New York Federals on Friday at 6 p.m. Dan Cevette (0-0, 7.36) and T. J. Wink (1-0, 0.00) will start for the Colonials against Mike Petrowski (1-0, 0.73) and Jake Loye (0-0, 0.00) for New York. It is St. Patrick's Day for the Colonials.
