Oklahoma City Blazers News Release
BLAZERS FINISH WEEK 1-1-1 â Oklahoma City skated three times last week, gaining three standings points with a 1-1-1 record. The Blazers defeated the New Mexico Scorpions 5-2 on November 3. Oklahoma City lost to the Wichita Thunder 4-3 in Wichita on November 5 and lost a 4-3 shootout decision to the Topeka Tarantulas in Topeka on November 6. The Blazers are 2-3-2, with 6 points and in third place tie in the Northeast Division of the CHL.
BLAZERS SQUISH SCORPS â Oklahoma City picked up its second win of the season at home on Wednesday against the New Mexico Scorpions. Brenden Morrow paced the Blazers with four assists. Brad Herauf chipped in three points (1-2-3) and Mike Beausoleil added two power-play goals. Goaltender Sean Connors stopped 24 of 26 shots for the win.
DISAPPOINTING LOSS IN WICHITA â Oklahoma City made its first trip to the Kansas Coliseum on November 5, looking to defeat the undefeated Wichita Thunder. Things looked good for Oklahoma City as Mike Beausoleil, Pat Hallett and Scott Selig each scored to give the Blazers a 3-0 lead. However, a three-point (1-2-3) performance by Jason Duda propelled the Thunder to four unanswered goals and a 4-3 win. The win for the Thunder extended their winning streak against the Blazers to six straight.
BLAZERS ESCAPE WITH A POINT IN TOPEKA â The Blazers continued their play in Kansas on November 6 in their first game ever against the expansion Topeka Tarantulas. Trailing 3-1 with under six minutes to play, the Blazers scored twice, including the tying goal with 10 seconds left, to force overtime and a shootout. In the shootout, the Blazers recorded one goal to the Tarantulas' two, giving the Blazers a 4-3 shootout loss and gained one standings point. Mike Beausoleil extended his goal-scoring streak to five.
NOT GOOD IN ONE GOAL GAMES â The Oklahoma City Blazers have not been good in one-goal games this season. Six of the team's seven games have been decided by one goal. The exception is the Blazers 5-2 win last Wednesday. The Blazers record in the six games decided by one goal is 1-3-2. The Blazers have the least productive record in the league in one goals games and have played the most one-goal games in the circuit.
THUNDER DOMINATING SERIESâ The Wichita Thunder's victory over the Blazers on November 5 extended the team's winning streak to six straight dating back to January 24, 2004. As has been the case over the last four seasons, one team has dominated this intense series. The Thunder posted a 6-3-1 mark against Oklahoma City last season, the team's best mark against the Blazers since the 1999-00 campaign when the Thunder were 8-3-1. Sandwiched between those seasons were just seven wins over 33 games over a three season timeframe for the Thunder. The six straight wins is tied for the second longest winning streak of any team against Oklahoma City. Only the Austin Ice Bats with eight straight have longer winning streaks against the Blazers. Five of the six Thunder wins have been by one goal, two of them were in overtime.
BEAUSOLEIL WITH GOALS IN FIVE STRAIGHT â Blazers forward Michel Beausoleil has been the offensive spark in the Blazers lineup this season. The third-year pro has recorded a team leading nine points (7-2-9). His seven goals ties him for second in the league in goals scored. He has recorded a goal in five straight games, the second longest active streak in the CHL.
BLAZERS STUGGLE TO SCORE IN THE SHOOTOUT â The Oklahoma City Blazers have struggled scoring goals in shootouts this season. The Blazers are 0-2 in overtime shootouts largely due to the fact only two of 11 shots have found the back of the net in the extra frame.
