Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
Corpus Christi, TX - The Corpus Christi Rayz made their home-town debut with a win over the Laredo Bucks on Friday night as part of a 1-0-1 weekend in the Central Hockey League. The Rayz opened up their new home - the AmericanBank Center â with a 6-4 victory over the defending President's Cup Champion, Bucks. A capacity crowd of 7,495 was on hand to see the inaugural event at the new home of the Rayz. On Saturday night, the Rayz faced the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees for the first time this season and fell 3-2 in a shootout to conclude the weekend. They are currently 2-2-2 with 6 points and tied for first place in the Southeast Division.
A sold out AmericanBank Center on Friday exploded with enjoyment as the Rayz were able to beat their division rival, Bucks for the first time this year. The unveiling of the new arena thrilled Rayz fans, as they broke the franchise record for attendance at a Rayz home game. The multi-tiered arena was packed by the start of the game, as fans funneled through the doors early for the ground-breaking event. The AmericanBank Center provided a great atmosphere to watch hockey. The fans were loud the entire game, and presence of the new arena seemed to inspire the Rayz to their second straight win. Greg Bullock and Derrick McIver each had a pair of goals for Corpus Christi to lead the team to win number one in game number one at their new home.
On Saturday night, the Rayz met the Bees in Hidalgo for their first meeting of the year. The teams exchanged first and third period leads, before the Rayz went to their first shootout of the season. In the extra session, the Bees scored twice on three attempts, while the Rayz were held scoreless on four, giving Rio Grande Valley a 3-2 shootout win. Greg Bullock had an assist and the game-tying goal, and is the only Rayz player to have registered a point in each of the six Rayz games this season.
This week the Rayz will play their first set of three games in three nights as they host the Austin Ice Bats on Thursday night, before traveling to Fort Worth on Friday and returning home on Saturday to play Bossier-Shreveport. Thursday night's game against Austin will be a Veteran's Day Tribute Game, with all current and former military members receiving free admission to the game. On Saturday night, the U.S.A. theme will continue as the Rayz celebrate America's Team â the Dallas Cowboys. The Rayz will be giving out Cowboys themed prizes, including tickets to their Monday Night Football game in Texas Stadium on November 15th. Anyone wearing Dallas Cowboys apparel will receive a discount on tickets to the game.
Both games will start at 7:05pm at the AmericanBank Center. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations or at the AmericanBank Center Box Office. For more information, please contact the Rayz at (361)814-7825.
