Sher-Wood CHL Player and Goaltender of the Month Announced
November 8, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
Odessa Jackalopes forward Sebastien Thinel and Wichita Thunder netminder Jamie Vandespyker have been recognized as the recipients of the Sher-Wood Player and Goaltender of the Month awards for October. Odessa's Thinel led all CHL point-getters with nine points in October, while Wichita's Vandespyker posted a perfect 3-0-0 mark during the month. Both recipients will receive a custom designed leather from Sher-Wood, the official stick, glove, pant and protective equipment supplier to the CHL.
The Jackalopes got off to an excellent start of 3-1-0 in October, largely due to the play of third year right winger Sebastien Thinel. Thinel had a pair of goals and an assist in a 5-3 win at Amarillo to begin the season, and enjoyed a four-point night (two goals, two assists) in a 7-3 win vs. San Angelo October 29th. The two-time CHL All-Star also scored in both the Jackalope's other October contests. Also receiving consideration as Sher-Wood CHL Player of the Month for October were Memphis center Keith Aucoin (four goals and five assists in the month) as well as Tulsa left winger Dan Gravelle, Austin forward Benoit Genesse, Memphis right winger Don Parsons, and Wichita left winger Scott Allison, all with eight points.
The Wichita Thunder enjoyed a perfect 4-0-0 October, with netminder Jamie Vandespyker earning three victories. He started the season with a 27-save 2-0 shutout performance in Topeka, then posted wins over both New Mexico and Lubbock. Vandespyker was acquired from Amarillo during the off-season, and completed October with a goals against average of just 1.67, with a save percentage of .947. Through today, Vandespyker and the Thunder remain unblemished with a record of 7-0-0. Also considered for October honors were New Mexico's Miguel Beaudry (3-1-0, 2.53 GAA, .922 save %), Odessa's Mike Gorman (3-1-0, 2.96 GAA, .912 save %) and San Angelo's Scott Reid (3-1-0, 2.35 GAA, .937 save %).
