Kamloops Blazers News Release

Kamloops, BC - Kamloops Blazers General Manager Craig Bonner announced the signing of sixteen year old forward Lyndon Martell to a standard WHL contract. Martell, from Prince George, BC, was listed by the Blazers in September of 2009 following the conclusion of training camp.

"Lyndon played great throughout the hockey season" says Director of Player Personnel, Matt Recchi. "We are very happy with his development from training camp and throughout the year. He is a natural goal scorer with good size that we believe will be an integral part of our team in the coming years."

Martell started this season with the Cariboo Cougars of the BC Major Midget League. In 10 games with the Cougars, Martell had 12 goals and 11 assists for 23 points.

Following Martell's blistering start in the BC Major Midget League, the 6'1" 190lb forward was called up by the Prince George Spruce Kings of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) in late October. The 16 year old scored 13 goals and added 18 assists for 31 points in 44 games with the Spruce Kings. Martell was also honoured as the Prince George Spruce Kings rookie of the year at their annual award banquet.

Martell will join the Blazers today to practice with the team through the remainder of the regular season.
