Blazers Select Defenseman Viktor Persson in CHL Import Draft
June 30, 2020 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Kamloops Blazers News Release
Kamloops, BC - The Kamloops Blazers have selected defenseman Viktor Persson 56th overall in the 2020 CHL Import Draft. Persson is from Valbo, Sweden and has played the last five seasons with the Brynäs IF hockey club.
"We are excited to be able to add a player like Viktor to our organization," said General Manager Matt Bardsley. "He is a mobile defenseman who is willing to lead or join the rush and brings the qualities we look for in a Kamloops Blazers defenseman."
The 6'2"and 192lb right shot defender had five goals, 13 assists and 18 points in 26 games for the Brynäs IF Under-20 team in the SuperElit league.
Persson, who is born in 2001, does not turn 19 until November and is therefore first-time eligible for the 2020 NHL Draft. In NHL Central Scouting's final rankings, Persson is rated 44th among eligible European skaters.
"He has good offensive upside while providing a steady presence in his own end," Bardsley continued. "We feel with his age and experience that he will be able to contribute right away."
Persson is expected to join the Blazers for training camp in September.
