Victoria Royals News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Royals are proud to announce the selection of 2003-born Danish forward Marcus Almquist, 27th overall, in the 2020 Canadian Hockey League (CHL) Import Draft this morning.
A native of Rodovre, Denmark, Almquist spent the majority of last season in Sweden's J18 Elit League, with the HV71 J18 team. In 18 contests with the club, Almquist recorded 24 points (10g-14a) and 10 penalty minutes. He also played for HV71's J20 team in the J20 SuperElit League, Sweden's top junior league, and registered three points (1g-2a) and two minutes in penalties in seven games.
"We are excited to have been able to draft Marcus with our pick this morning," General Manager and Head Coach Dan Price said. "He is a dynamic and highly skilled young forward who plays the game with speed and will be a great fit for our style of play."
Throughout multiple international tournaments this past season, the 5-5, 154 lb forward suited up in 10 games for Denmark's Under-20 team, as a 16-year-old and collected seven goals and two assists.
During the 2018-19 season, a then 15-year-old Almquist played in 21 games for the professional Rodovre SIK team in the Danish second division. He led Rodovre SIK in scoring with 21 points (11g-10a). Almquist also skated in 13 contests for the Rodovre U-20 team and five games for the Rodovre U-18's where he tallied 16 (11g-5a) and 21 points (12g-9a) respectively.
