Oklahoma City Blazers News Release
Oklahoma City, Okla. â The Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League signed forwards Brad Herauf, Jay Woodcroft and Jeremy Wray Blazers head coach Doug Sauter announced today.
Herauf, a 5-11, 195-pound native of Regina, Sask., joined the Blazers late last season, amassing eight points (3-5-8) while serving 157 penalty minutes in 29 games. Prior to his entry into professional hockey, he completed a four-year career in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, splitting time between the Estevan Bruins and Battleford's North Stars. In 199 games between the two clubs, the feisty Herauf recorded 218 points (48-170-218) and served 990 penalty minutes.
Woodcroft, a 6-1, 190-pound native of Toronto, Ontario was acquired from the Topeka Tarantulas on July 7 in exchange for defenseman Peter Robertson. Last season, Woodcroft skated with the Corpus Christi Rayz, scoring 31 points (16-15-31) while serving 48 penalty minutes. His 16 goals tied him for the team lead in that category. Woodcroft scored a league season high six points (4-2-6) in the Rayz 6-4 win over the Colorado Eagles on December 5, helping him win CHL Player of the Week honors. The four-year pro has scored 99 points (45-54-99) while serving 238 penalty minutes in 216 career games.
The 5-8, 190-pound Wray skated last season with the Richmond Riverdogs of the United Hockey League. With the Riverdogs, the Cartwright, Manitoba native recorded 15 points (7-8-15) while serving 114 penalty minutes in 35 games. Prior to turning pro, he completed his junior hockey career with the Humboldt Broncos of the SJHL. In his final season of junior hockey, he compiled 54 points (29-25-54) and served 277 penalty minutes in 51 games. He was a teammate of Blazers goaltender Sean Connors during Humboldt's run to the Royal Bank Cup in 2003.
"I'm glad to have all three of these players signed for this season," said Doug Sauter. "Herauf skated with us last season and got a taste of what this league is about. He is feisty and he comes to play every night. Woodcroft has some excellent leadership qualities, pro experience and a great attitude. Wray is a spark-plug type of player. He is an aggressive player that I think our fans will like to watch."
The addition of Herauf, Woodcroft and Wray brings the total number of players signed for the 04-05 campaign to 18.
Oklahoma City opens the 2004-05 season at home against the Colorado Eagles on October 22 at 7:35 p.m.
