Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA -- The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs have today announced the re-signing of a familiar pair on the team's blue line. Defensemen Quade Lightbody and Wes Blevins are the third and fourth members of the 2004-2005 roster.
Last season, both players joined the Mudbugs and formed one of the team's most steady defensive pairs as they combined for a plus-39 rating. Lightbody, a 29-year-old native of Port Elgin, Ontario, recorded 15 points and 136 penalty minutes while playing in all 64 games during the regular season. The 6'2" 215-pound blueliner will enter his fourth season of pro hockey after previous stints in Saint-John (AHL), Port Huron (UHL), and Kalamazoo (UHL).
Blevins, in his fifth professional season, missed just one game last year and recorded ten points and a plus-19 rating. The 6'0 205-pound defenseman hails from Westland, Michigan and scored his first two goals as a Mudbug in the postseason including one in Game 7 of the President's Cup Finals. Prior to turning pro, the 28-year-old spent four years attending the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).
"Quade and Wes proved to be two of our most solid and consistent defensemen last year," said Mudbugs Head Coach Scott Muscutt. "They're the type of stay-at-home defensemen that every team wants and to have them coming back is key for us as we build our defensive units and hopefully have the same success defensively that we had last year."
Lightbody and Blevins join goaltenders Ken Carroll and Jeff Blair as the first four members of the 2004-2005 Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs roster. On October 22nd, the eighth season of Mudbugs hockey will begin with the home opener against the Fort Worth Brahmas and season ticket packages and corporate partnerships are currently available.
