Oklahoma City Blazers News Release

Oklahoma City, Okla. – The Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League have signed defensemen Shawn Weiman, Ryan Rome and Jarad Bourassa, head coach Doug Sauter announced today.

Weiman, a second-year pro from Marshall, Saskatchewan, split time between three teams in the ECHL last season. In 67 games between the three clubs, he recorded 22 points (2-20-22) and served 73 penalty minutes. Blazers fans may remember Weiman's short stint with the club during the 2003 postseason. Weiman recorded an assist and served two penalty minutes in four playoff games against the Memphis RiverKings. The 6-1, 205-pounder completed a four-year career at Providence College before turning pro. In 121 games he picked up 30 points (6-24-30) while 134 penalty minutes with the Friars.

Rome will be entering his second stint with the Blazers and third overall as a pro. The 6-1, 205-pound native of Nesbitt, Manitoba amassed four points (1-3-4) and served 168 penalty minutes in 68 games while splitting time between the Flint Generals and Missouri River Otters of the United Hockey League. Rome skated with the Blazers during the 2001-02 season, scoring 10 points (3-7-10) and serving 144 penalty minutes in 63 games.

The 6-0, 195-pound Bourassa completed a four-year junior career in the Western Hockey League last season. In 209 games over the four-year span with the Swift Current Broncos and Moose Jaw Warriors, he compiled 50 points (17-33-50) while serving 237 penalty minutes. Last season with the Moose Jaw, he scored 20 points (7-13-20) while serving 104 penalty minutes.

"We are putting the finishing touches on our roster," said Sauter. "These players help to give us a new look and will make our club one to be reckoned with in the CHL this season."

The addition of Weiman, Rome and Bourassa brings the number of players signed for the 2004-05 season to 21. Oklahoma City opens its 13th training camp on Monday, October 11 at 10 a.m. at the Ford Center. The 2004-05 regular season begins at home against the Colorado Eagles on October 22 at 7:35 p.m.
