
Blazers add d-men to stable

Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League signed defensemen Shawn Germain (zhur-main), Tyler Kuntz (koontz) and Joe Dustin, Blazers head coach Doug Sauter announced today.
Germain, a 6-1, 195-pounder from St. Paul, Alberta skated last season at the University of Waterloo in Ontario. In 24 games with the Warriors, he compiled 13 points (1-12-13) while serving 12 penalty minutes. Prior to his stint at the University of Waterloo, Germain competed with the Chilliwack Chiefs for two seasons, recording 37 points (4-33-37) while serving 99 penalty minutes in 114 games.
The 26-year old Kuntz skated last season with Huegelsheim ESV in Germany. The 6-2, 210-pound native of Lumsden, Saskatchewan recorded 16 points (6-10-16) and served 82 penalty minutes in 40 games. Prior to turning pro, Kuntz skated five seasons with the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds. In 135 games with the Thunderbirds, he compiled 28 points (13-15-28) and served 160 penalty minutes.
Dustin, a 6-0, 200-pound native of Vadnais Heights, Minn. split time last season with the Fayetteville FireAntz of the Southern Professional Hockey League and the Charlotte Checkers and Louisiana IceGators of the ECHL. In 62 games between the three clubs, he compiled 20 points (6-14-20) and served 64 penalty minutes. Prior to turning pro, he completed a four-year career at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. In 109 games over four seasons, Dustin amassed 26 points (8-18-26) and served 18 penalty minutes.
"I'm pleased with the caliber of these players," said Sauter. "Two of the three come to us with solid experience in the professional ranks. Adding three players to our defensive corps is a plus. This will give our defense a new look. I'm anxious to see them in a Blazers sweater."
The addition of the Germain, Kuntz and Dustin brings the total number of players signed to 13. They join defensemen Tyler Fleck, Jason Goulet and Troy Johnston and forwards Jared Dumba, Garrett Prosofsky, Kahlil Thomas, Marty Standish, Michel Beausoleil, and Ryan Johnston as well as goaltender Sean Connors on the Blazers roster.
The Oklahoma City Blazers will kick off their 2005-06 campaign at home on Friday, October 21 against the Fort Worth Brahmas at 7:35 p.m.
