Laredo Bucks News Release

LAREDO, Texas - The 2005 Southern Conference Champion Laredo Bucks announced today the signing of forward Reg Thomas Jr. to a contract for the 2005-06 CHL season. Thomas spent five years playing major junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League. He is the fifteenth player signed by the Bucks this off season. Laredo Bucks season ticket holders enjoy many exclusive offers that are available only to season ticket holders, such as a personalized ticket representative, name in the program, and the ability to redeem unused tickets. Thomas, a 6' 2" 205 pound forward, spent last season with the Sault-Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League. Thomas set career highs with 15 goals and 26 points, and had 117 PIMs as he helped the Greyhounds post a 33-25-9-1 record and capture the OHL West Division regular season title.

"Reg is a guy who can play any forward position," Bucks head coach Terry Ruskowski said. "He has good size and is physical. I played against his father in the World Hockey Association. If his son is anything like his father we will be very happy. I think he'll fit into our program very nicely."

The 21-year old native of, Lambeth, Ontario, played a season and a half with the Greyhounds. He also spent parts of three seasons with the OHL Sarnia Sting beginning in 2000-01.

"I am really excited to come to Laredo," said Thomas. "As soon as our season ended I talked with Terry and I have been looking forward to playing pro ever since."

Thomas was selected twice in the 2002-03 season as the Sarnia Sting hardest worker of the month.

Coming from the OHL to the CHL will be an adjustment for Thomas on several levels.

"Last year playing in the Soo was one of the coldest places weather wise to play hockey. Now I go to Laredo where it is one of the hottest places to play," explained Thomas.

Training camp for the Bucks will open on October 10th. The regular season will start on October 21st. The Bucks open at home on October 29th.
