Stockton Ports News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - For the second straight game, the Stockton Ports played extra innings. On Thursday night, however, the Boys of Banner Island found themselves on the wrong side of the ledger. Steve Selsky hit a game-winning single in the bottom of the 11th inning off Blake Hassebrock (1-3) that extended the Bakersfield Blaze winning streak to six games and snapped Stockton's three-game streak as the Ports fell 4-3.

Bakersfield broke the ice with the game's first run in the fourth inning. With two on and one out, Juan Silverio singled to center to score Kyle Waldrop and give the Blaze a 1-0 lead.

Stockton returned fire in the fifth inning. With one out, Myrio Richard doubled to left. Bobby Crocker followed and singled to left and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After Addison Russell struck out for the second out, Max Muncy was intentionally walked to load the bases. Tony Thompson came up next and singled to center on a 2-2 pitch to score a pair of runs and give Stockton a 2-1 lead.

Blaze starter Jonathan Moscot finished the fifth inning and received a no-decision, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out six.

Ports starter Drew Granier gave up a leadoff double to Ryan Wright in the bottom of the fifth. Two batters later, Marquez Smith hit a two-run homer to center that put the Blaze back in front 3-2.

Granier went seven innings and also received a no-decision, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out five.

The Ports tied the contest at 3-3 in the top of the seventh. Richard was hit in the helmet by Blaze reliever Kyle Lotzkar to start the inning, but would remain in the game. Richard went on to steal second and third and scored on a two-out RBI single from Muncy. It was the only run and only hit allowed by Lotzgar in two innings of relief.

Pat Doyle took over on the mound for the Blaze in the eighth and, with two on and one out, induced an inning-ending 4-6-3 double-play off the bat of B.A. Vollmuth. Beginning with that double-play, Blaze pitching retired 10 in a row to close out the ballgame.

Pedro Vidal came on in relief of Granier in the eighth inning and pitched the eighth and ninth scoreless to send the game into extra innings.

Hassebrock came on to start the 10th and pitched around a lead off walk to send the game to the 11th inning.

Hassebrock walked Wright to open the 11th and with one out, Wright advanced to second on a wild pitch. After Smith walked, Selsky came to the plate and delivered the game-winning opposite-field single to right-center to give the Blaze the win.

El'Hajj Muhammad (1-0) set the side down in order in the 11th and picked up the win for the Blaze.

Stockton and Bakersfield play the second game of their four-game series on Friday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark. James Simmons (0-0, 0.00 ERA) makes his second start for the Ports, opposed by Blaze right-hander James Allen (2-4, 4.62 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m. PDT.
