
Blast Welcomes Monterrey Fury with Hispanic Night Festivities

Baltimore, MD â The Baltimore Blast will host the expansion Monterrey Fury Friday night and will celebrate the Mexican team's second trip to Baltimore with a celebration of both team's Hispanic players. In conjunction with Blast sponsor Winner Distributing, the Blast will present a check for $5,000 to the Baltimore-based Education-Based Latino Outreach prior to kickoff Friday night.
"I am excited about the representation of the Hispanic community on the Baltimore Blast," said Blast Owner Ed Hale. "These players have a high level of skill and are fierce competitors that have contributed to our winning season."
The Blast squad consists of three Hispanic players, Carlos "Chile" Farias, Carlos Garcia, and Neil Gilbert. Farias, a native of Chile, leads the Blast this season with 34 points and ranks third overall in points in the MISL. Gilbert, an eight-year veteran, is from Argentina, and Garcia, the Blast's rookie forward came to the United States from Colombia. The Fury features players from Mexico, Paraguay, Argentina and Uruguay.
Education-Based Latino Outreach (EBLO), which was founded in 1980, strives to improve the lives of Hispanic youth and families by providing educational opportunities and cultural programs. The organization offers English- and Spanish-language classes, legal information and tutoring to members of the Hispanic community.
Friday night is also ball night and the first 2,000 fans 13 and under who enter 1st Mariner Arena will receive a free soccer ball, courtesy of the Baltimore Blast and IWIF.
The Blast (15-5, first in the Eastern Division), will travel to Dallas Saturday morning to play the Dallas Sidekicks Saturday night at 8:05 p.m. ET. The Blast is on a six-game win streak and will put its undefeated 8-0 Friday-night record on the line this week against the Fury.
