St. Louis Steamers News Release
The St. Louis Steamers came out smokin' Saturday night against the Baltimore Blast -- scoring goals at 18 seconds and 1:32 of the first quarter. However, the defending MISL champion Blast regrouped and rallied to record an 11-6 victory before 3,856 fans at The Family Arena.
Giuliano Celenza, Lee Tschantret, Allen Eller, and Tarik Walker scored two goals each to lead a balanced Baltimore offensive attack. Celenza also recorded three assists for a five-point night. Blast goalkeeper Scott Hileman was credited with the victory before giving way to rookie keeper Brian Rowland late in the game. Sipho Sibiya scored two goals to lead the Steamers offensively.
Both St. Louis goalkeepers â starter Brett Phillips and backup Nando Hernandez â were injured and forced to leave the game. The Steamers (5-12) played the final 9 minutes, 55 seconds of the fourth quarter with Sterling Wescott and Daryl Doran wearing the sixth-attacker jersey. St. Louis trailed just 6-4 when Phillips took a hard shot from David Bascome in the neck area. Phillips lay prone for a brief period before being helped off the field to the locker room. He was evaluated by the medical staff and was sitting up and alert by the end of the game. Hernandez injured his right elbow while fully entending his arm on a loose ball. He will be further evaluated after the game.
The game started on a positive note for the Steamers when Jake Bleyenberg scored on a one-timer at 18 seconds of the first quarter off a feed from Jeff DiMaria. Danny Santoro gave the Steamers a 2-0 lead at 1:32 on a one-timer off a Steve Butcher pass off the wall. Bascome scored at 4:14 of the first to make it 2-1, and Denison Cabral (6:59) and Tschantret (8:25) followed to give the Blast a 3-2 lead after one period.
Baltimore took a 4-2 lead at 6:12 of the second on a power-play goal by Celenza. But the Steamers battled back to make it 4-4 on consecutive goals by Butcher (7:51) and DiMaria. Butcher's goal came on a penalty kick, one of two penalty kick goals in the game (Baltimore's Danny Kelly later scored on a penalty kick). Allen Eller scored at 13:31 of the second and the Blast led 5-4 at halftime.
Walker scored just 17 seconds into the third quarter to give the Blast a 6-4 lead. Following the Phillips injury, the Blast scored three unanswered goals to open a 9-4 lead. Sibiya's second fourth-quarter goal at 11:59 accounted for the 11-6 final.

Page Extension a hit with Steamers Fans
December 13 marked the official "ribbon-cutting" ceremony for the highly anticipated opening of a new river crossing linking St. Charles and St. Louis counties. The Page Avenue Extension is expected to provide traffic relief for commuters crossing the Missouri River and should provide easier access for many St. Louis County residents to Steamers games at the St. Charles Family Arena.
The Page Bridge is a 10-lane structure joining two of the largest counties (St. Louis and St. Charles) in Missouri. Officially designated as the Veterans Memorial Bridge, the river crossing is expected to carry from 60,000-80,000 vehicles per day in its early years. Most of this traffic will be diverted from the Blanchette Bridge, which currently carries in excess of 200,000 vehicles daily. One of the new extension off-ramps is just one mile south of The Family Arena.
