
Sockers Square off with Comets for Second Time this Season

The San Diego Sockers host the Kansas City Comets on Friday, January 23 at the San Diego Sports Arena. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. In addition to the great indoor soccer that will be played, the first 4,000 fans will receive a Victor Nogueira Bobble Head courtesy of Sleep Therapy. Nogueira is the all-time leader in wins and minutes played in indoor soccer history. Currently he ranks fourth in the MISL among goalkeepers with a 4,53 GAA and has started every game this season for San Diego.
The teams met once this season, with the Sockers coming away with a 6-3 victory on November 9, 2003. Paul Wright was the game-high scorer with two goals and an assist. In addition, Wright currently leads the Sockers in points with 11 goals and 12 assists for a total of 23 points.
The Comets feature two-time league MVP Dino Delevski. On top of his MVP status, Delevski has also won the Spalding Scoring Race each of the past two seasons. So far in the 2003-04 MISL season, Delevski has tallied 25 goals and eight assists in 16 games played, placing him fourth in the league. The Comets also have former Sockers' goalkeeper D.J. Horvath who ranks last in the MISL with a 7.39 GAA.
The game will be the third Sockers' telecast of the season on Channel 4 San Diego. Set your TiVo or VHS recorder to see yourself cheering on the Sockers. The game will re-air on Monday night as well. The game will also air LIVE on ESPN Radio 800 and on the Internet at www.worldtalkradio.com.
SOCKERS HIT THE ROAD FOR 8 OF NEXT 9 GAMES
Following Friday's game, the Sockers face their toughest stretch of the season. The team will play eight of their next nine games away from the San Diego Sports Arena. "It's very important that we learn to have a winning attitude on the road. This next month will be a very important stretch for us," said Coach Brian Quinn. The lone home game comes on Saturday, February 14. The Valentine's Day affair features the Sockers against the 2002-03 MISL champion Baltimore Blast.
