San Diego Sockers News Release

(SAN DIEGO, Calif.) - The San Diego Sockers lost to the St. Louis Steamers on the road Friday night, 7-4. With the loss, the Sockers drop their second straight game to the Steamers and fall to 2-4. The team looks ahead to Saturday¹s match against the Philadelphia KiXX, who are undefeated so far this season

San Diego took the 1-0 lead off a Ryan Mack goal, but then dropped three unanswered goals to the Steamers in the first period. Mack scored his first goal of the season off the assist by Mark Ughy. St. Louis evened the score with a goal by Randy Soderman, then tallied two more by Mike Kirchhoff and Daryl Doran to end the period. In the second, San Diego responded and tied the Steamers with goals by Mauricio Alegre and Ughy, the MISL Player of the Month for October. The half looked to end with a tie but a late goal by Steamers veteran Doran lifted the team to a one goal lead.

After the break, St. Louis scored the only goals of the third period with Nino DaSilva and Joe Reiniger finding the back of San Diego¹s net.

Paul Wright came in as sixth attacker in the fourth and Steve Butcher put the Sockers within two, but Joe Reiniger found the empty net to put the lead back at 7-4.

Steamers goalkeeper Brett Phillips earned his third straight win and improved to 3-1. Sockers goalkeeper Victor Nogueira dropped his second straight game and saw his record fall to 2-4.

San Diego travels to Philadelphia on Saturday to play the KiXX for the first time this season. Kick off is set for 5:05 PM (PST). The team returns home on Sunday, Nov. 21 to host the Kansas City Comets.
