Sockers\' defender named MISL Defensive Player of the Week

(SAN DIEGO, Calif.) – Defender Nevio Pizzolitto earned MISL Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance in the Sockers' 11-5 victory over the Kansas City Comets on Nov. 21. Pizzolitto, acquired in an off-season trade with the Cleveland Force, had an assist and three blocks in the Sunday showdown and helped the Sockers triumph over their Western Division Rivals.

Pizzolitto assisted on the Sockers' first goal of the game, then recorded three blocks during a San Diego-dominated third quarter to help the Sockers pull away from the Kansas City Comets and win 11-5 at the San Diego Sports Arena on Nov. 21. The assist was the fourth of the season for the native of Montreal, Que. The 28-year-old defender, and three-time All-Star, was acquired by San Diego during the off-season after spending the three previous seasons with the Cleveland Force. In 2003-04, Pizzolitto played in 19 games for the Force and totaled three goals, three assists, and 22 blocks. In his eight-year professional indoor career, Pizzolitto has played in 203 games and totaled 53 goals, 53 assists, and 267 blocks.

Pizzolitto and the Sockers travel to Philadelphia on Dec. 3 to face the Philadelphia KiXX. The team returns home on Saturday, Dec. 18 to host the Cleveland Force and former teammate Robbie Aristodemo for the first time this season. Dec. 18 is Ball Night with the first 3,000 kids to the Sports Arena receiving a free Sockers ball.
