Blast Defeat Lancers 15-7

The Blast returned home on Saturday night to match up with the Rochester Lancers for the second time this season. In a hard fought game, the Blast defeated the Lancers 15-7 for their 13th win in a row.

The game got off to a slow start with only one goal scored in the opening quarter. The Lancers jumped out to an early lead when Andrew Hoxie scored a goal off an assist from Jeremy Ortiz at the 6:25 mark in the quarter. At the end of the first the Lancers led 2-0.

The Blast were able to tie the game only 1:20 into the second quarter. After a hand ball in the box by Rochester, Max Ferdinand was able to convert a shootout attempt for the Blast for his 9th goal of the year. At the 8:15 mark Pat Healey was able to give the Blast the lead with his 5th goal of the assisted by Max Ferdinand. At the half the Blast led 4-2.

The second half was a defensive battle. The Blast held the Lancers to only 3 shots, which were all saved by goalkeeper William Vanzela. Onua Obasi was able to extend the Blast lead at the 11:12 mark with a 3 point goal accounting for the only points in the quarter. The Blast went into the final quarter leading 7-2.

During the fourth quarter the scoring picked up with 5 goals. Lucas Roque was able to get possession at midfield and beat a defender before setting up Tony Donatelli for his 9th goal of the season. The Lancers answered 37 seconds later with a goal from Joey Tavernese assisted by Mauricio Salles pulling the Lancers within 5. The Lancers stuck again at the 8:59 mark with a three point goal by Andrew Hoxie assisted by Mauricio Salles. The Blast were able to answer with a 3 point goal of their own by Onua Obasi for his second three pointer of the game, this one assisted by Adauto Neto. After the Lancers brought on the 6th attacker with 2 minutes remaining Tony Donatelli was able to make a 3 point goal to seal the Blast victory. The final score was 15-7.

The Blast move to 13-0 on the season. The Blast were led offensively by Onua Obasi who recorded 2 three point goals and Tony Donatelli who recorded 2 goals. In goal for the Blast William Vanzela recorded 13 saves and remains undefeated on the season. Defensively Pat Healey recorded 4 blocks in the victory.

The Blast have a bye next weekend before a west coast trip to play in Las Vegas and San Diego. Those games are February 6th and 7th at 10 p.m. eastern.
