Syracuse Silver Knights News Release
SYRACUSE, New York - The Syracuse Silver Knights (8-6, Eastern Division #2) used a 12-4 second half scoring advantage to beat the Harrisburg Heat (0-11, Eastern Division #5) 24-14.
In the first period the goals came early and often for both sides as there were 5 goals in the first quarter all of which were in the first 6 minutes of play. At the end of the first quarter Tarik Walker found his Heat side up 6-4.
The lead would continue to climb for the home side after two goals were added to the lead by Tyler Witmer and Kenny Fultz just 2:30 into the second quarter of action to take a 10-4 lead. After a Marcos Chantel ' s blue card for holding gave the Heat a man advantage, things were not looking good for the Salt City club.
But the Knights simply would not go away. Bo Jelovac took a lazy pass from a Heat attacker and quickly raced up field for a 1 on 1 opportunity with Heat goalie Timothy Mehl. Bo would connect on the short-handed goal that lifted the spirits of the Silver Knights in a time when things were looking down.
The Silver Knights used the Bo Jelovac short-handed goal as moment for the rest of the quarter by scoring the next 3 goals unanswered. Nelson Santana ' s free kick goal evened the score at 10 a piece late in the second quarter before Antonio Manfut ' s goal moments before the halftime whistle gave the Silver Knights their first lead of the game, one which they would not let go of.
The Silver Knights went into the third quarter of play leading 12-10 and were looking to keep momentum going for their side.
Tyler Witmer, who finished with 2 goals and 1 assist for the Heat, tied things back up for the Heat just 3:10 into the third. But the Knights had an answer once again rattling off 4 unanswered goals in the quarter lead by 2 goals from Neto, who finished with a hat trick. The 8 point third quarter gave the Silver Knights a 20-12 lead and some breathing room going into the fourth.
The Heat once again got on the board first in the fourth with a free kick goal from Teixeira ' s foot just 48 seconds into the quarter, but that would be the last goal for the Heat.
The fourth quarter saw scoring action from Santana with 2 and Neto before the clock hit all zeros on the scoreboard. Slavisa Ubiparipovic (2 goals and 3 assists) and Nelson Santana (4 goals and 1 assists) lead the way for the Silver Knights with 5 points apiece. Rick Pflasterer made 11 saves in his 3rd win this season.
The 6 point comeback was the biggest margin the Silver Knights have overcome this season. Down 10-4 early in the second quarter, Tommy Tanner's side remained focused for a comeback.
With the win the Knights improve to 4-0 on the season against the Harrisburg Heat and 8-6 overall. The Knights continue their road weekend with a trip to Rochester to take on the Lancers tomorrow January 25, 2015 for a 4pm start at the Blue Cross Arena. Next weekend the Silver Knights will be on the road taking on the Milwaukee Wave and the Chicago Mustangs. It will be the first meetings for the Knights and their opponents this season.
