Wave Defeats Detroit Waza Flo 9-4
January 24, 2015 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Milwaukee Wave News Release
Your Six-Time Champion MKE Wave returned to Melvindale Arena Saturday night to face a very physical Detroit Waza Flo and came up victorious thanks to a great defensive effort from Goalkeeper Jeff Richey and a four goal performance from the team's leading scorer #26 Ian Bennett.
"We have a lot of respect for the Detroit Waza Flo and the effort they gave tonight," said Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero. "Nothing came easy and we had to earn everything we got. Sure we pulled away there at the end but overall it was not an easy game."
The first half of action was evenly matched with both teams answering each other's goals.
First half MKE Wave goals came from #15 Tony Walls (assist Banks), #77 Marcio Leite (unassisted) and two from #26 Ian Bennett, one unassisted, the other assisted by #18 Stefan St. Louis.
First half Detroit Waza Flo goals came from #22 Daniel Mattos, #16 Ricardo Lopes and #7 Miki Djerisilo.
MKE Wave goalkeeper #7 Jeff Richey and Detroit Waza Flo goalkeeper #66 Darrel Quinn kept the third quarter scoreless, while the MKE Wave scoring spree came in the fourth with goals from #8 Bato Radoncic, #8 Stefan St. Louis (his first as a MKE Wave player), #77 Marcio Leite and an additional two goals from #26 Ian Bennett.
Final Score: MKE Wave 9, Detroit Waza Flo 4.
Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero on...
-#7 Jeff Richey's performance in goal :
"Jeff had a great game. He made some big saves at some crucial times in the game that kept us in the lead and he kind of put us in the driver's seat towards the end of the game."
-The team's offensive performance:
"Big goals, big goals all around! Ian showed up tonight, Marcio as well and all three of our target forwards scored a goal which is great to see it spread around amongst the team."
-Keeping the moment from this win into Sunday's 3pm home game against Wichita:
"We've got a long bus trip home. It's nice to travel with a win under your belt. Sure they'll be a little sore tomorrow but playing in front of your home fans is really going to energize the guys. I think we're going to come out with a great performance tomorrow."
Sunday, January 25th - 3pm CT.
