Hartford Yard Goats News Release
Hartford, CT- Bladimir Restituyo drove in three of Hartford's four runs, but the Yards Goats fell to the Somerset Patriots by a final score of 11-4 on Friday night at Dunkin' Park in Hartford. Yard Goats slugger Hunter Goodman also had an impressive showing, finishing the night 2-4 with two runs scored.
It did not take long for Somerset to find themselves in the scoring column, as Trey Sweeney led off the game with a double down the right field line. After advancing to third on an error, Tyler Hardman hit a ball to deep left field for a sacrifice fly, making the score 1-0 Patriots after the first inning.
Somerset continued to attack in the top of the fourth inning. A one-out single from Jeisson Rosario, followed by two consecutive walks worked by Aaron Palensky and Mickey Gasper, loaded the bases for Somerset. Sweeney collected another RBI on a dribbler to Yard Goats starter Joe Rock, who threw Sweeney out at first on the play. The next batter, Jasson Dominguez, hit a three-run blast to right field to make it 5-0 Somerset.
Hartford would respond in the bottom of the fourth inning. Goodman smacked a lead off double to left field, and the next batter, Zac Veen, worked a walk. A wild pitch allowed both runners to advance, putting two runners in scoring position with no outs in the inning. Two batters later, Bladimir Restituyo hit a sacrifice fly to right field, cutting Somerset's lead to 5-1 after four frames.
The Patriots added to their lead in the top of the sixth. With one out in the inning, Palensky was drilled by a pitch and Gasper doubled to center field. Dominguez struck again two batters later, as he hit a 2-RBI double down the right field line to extend Somerset's lead to 7-1.
Once again, the Yard Goats immediately bounced back in the bottom of the inning. Goodman lined a single up the middle and Braxton Fulford reached base on an error by Somerset's shortstop, putting runners on first and second with two outs. Restituyo collected his second and third RBI of the night by placing a double down the right field line, and the next batter, Bret Boswell, smoked a double high off the right field wall to trim the Patriots' lead to 7-4 after six innings.
In the top of the seventh inning, T.J. Rumfield added an insurance run for Somerset by hitting a solo shot to right field, and Gasper did the same in the top of the eighth inning to make the score 9-4 Somerset. Two more runs from the Patriots in the ninth inning made the final score 11-4 Somerset.
The Yard Goats and Somerset Patriots play the fifth game of a six-game series on Saturday night (6:10 PM) at Dunkin' Park. Chris McMahon takes the mound for the Yard Goats after giving up just one run and earning a no-decision in his last outing against the Akron Rubber Ducks. For Somerset, Richard Fitts toes the rubber searching for his third win of the 2023 season. Tomorrow's game will be broadcast on AM 1410, FM 100.9 and on the iheart radio app.
