June 9, 2023 - Eastern League (EL)
Erie SeaWolves News Release
Despite homers by Colt Keith and Diego Rincones, the SeaWolves fell for a fourth straight game to Bowie, 7-5.
Sawyer Gipson-Long started for the SeaWolves and tossed a 1-2-3 first inning. In the second, Shayne Fontana led off with a line-drive home run to start the scoring. Later in the frame, with a runner on, Zach Watson took the right-hander deep as well to open up a three-run lead.
Erie rebounded in the bottom of that second. After Jake Holton walked, Diego Rincones blasted a long two-run homer to cut the deficit to 3-2. Both of Rincones' home runs this season have been against Bowie left-hander Cade Povich, who started tonight for the Baysox.
In the third inning, the SeaWolves took the lead on three-straight two-out hits. Andrew Navigato extended his hitting streak to 13 games with the first of his two doubles in the game. Dillon Dingler followed with a game-tying double. Holton then scored Dingler with a go-ahead single.
Erie kept that 4-3 lead until the sixth inning. After Gipson-Long struck out the first two batters of the inning, Donta' Williams hit a soft single. Then, Watson blasted his second two-run homer of the game to give Bowie a 5-4 lead. Gipson-Long (5-4) took the loss.
Lael Lockhart relieved Gipson-Long. In the seventh, he walked a pair of batters ahead of Fontana's two-out, two-run double. It extended Bowie's lead to 7-4.
Colt Keith smashed a solo home run in the eighth inning to get Erie closer. It was Keith's 18th multi-hit game of the season and second consecutive.
The SeaWolves stranded 13 runners in the loss. They went 2-for-12 with men in scoring position, and did not have a hit with runners in scoring position after the third inning. Kade Strowd (2-1) earned the win in relief for Bowie.
Wilmer Flores will look to play stopper for the SeaWolves opposed by Peter Van Loon on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
