
Blades Win Third Straight, Defeat Wheat Kings 4-2 on the Road

The Saskatoon Blades picked up their 3rd straight win on Tuesday night in Brandon as they dumped the Wheat Kings 4-2, improving their record on the season to the .500 mark of 4-4-0-0.
Chris Langkow was named the game's first star thanks to a goal and 2 assists along with a perfect +4 rating. Langkow, from Vegreville, AB, scored the Blades 2nd goal while adding assists to the teams 3rd and 4th goals. In addition, Langkow picked up 7 penalty minutes including a 2nd period fight against 6'6" defenseman Keith Aulie.
Brendon Wall scored his 1st career goal in the game at the 16:27 mark of the 1st period to give the Blades a 1-0 lead. Curtis Hamilton and Derek Hulak each scored their 2nd goals of the season in the game while Travis Toomey picked up 2 assists. The line combination of Travis Toomey, Curtis Hamilton, and Chris Langkow continue to pick up where they left off last season as the linemates were a combined +10 in the game while recording 7 points (2G; 5A).
Braden Holtby made his 6th consecutive appearance in goal for the Blades and improved his record on the season to 3-3-0-0 after turning aside 21 of Brandon's 23 shots. James Priestner made 18 saves on 22 shots in his debut in a Wheat Kings uniform. Priestner spent last season with the Kamloops Blazers.
The Blades struggled on the power play in the game, going 0 for 5 on the man advantage. The Wheat Kings scored just once on 9 power play opportunities in the game including 4 in the 3rd period alone.
Saskatoon will now return to town to practice on Wednesday and Thursday before departing to Alberta for a 3 game in 3 night's stretch that will see them make stops in Edmonton (Friday), Red Deer (Saturday), and Calgary (Sunday). The club will then face the Swift Current Broncos and Regina Pats on the road to conclude their 6 game road streak, the longest of their season, before returning home to Credit Union Centre ice on October 22nd when they host the Portland Winter Hawks.
